6-16-2019 Father's Day Bike Ride

On this nice Sunday we went for a bike ride with Mark, Annette and their daughter. We made a quick stop here at the
Landmark for Peace Memorial at Martin Luther King Memorial Park.

Apparently, this is where President John F. Kennedy gave a speech to calm the masses in Indianapolis after Martin Luther
King Jr. was assassinated.

We then continued on to the Talbott Street Art Fair. We enjoyed looking at the beautiful art from various vendors, though
none of us bought anything. Well, Cara and Annette found a couple people having garage sales nearby, and they did
purchase a couple of more affordable things there.

After a nice dinner in downtown Indy we headed home. There has been a ton of rain in Indianapolis (and throughout
Indiana) this Spring, and Fall Creek was showing it.

To the left you can see where the river is trying to cut a new channel.

The river was out of its banks.

This is supposed to be the Fall Creek Parkway Trail, but it looks like part of the river here. Fortunately for us, this is right
where we turn off of the trail to head home.

6-14-2019 Bike Party

The second Friday of every month is Bike Party in Indianapolis. Hundreds of people on bicycles of all kinds gather at the
City Market downtown, then take off en masse to ride a designated route, which is different each time.

It's awesome to have so many bikers together, and it's always fun! We get lots of intrigued looks from the people we pass.

There are usually a couple of designated stops along the way.

This time our first stop was in south Indy at Garfield Park to play kickball.

It's fun to walk around and see the various bicycles that are all duded out.

This is obviously a custom bike that drew lots of attention.

Another custom bike, complete with sound system and disco ball in the back!

There weren't as many custom bikes as we've seen before, but the ones we did see were pretty cool.

We made it back downtown to Pan Am Plaza (the final stop) before the rain set in.

We didn't stay here too long because the rain was coming and we wanted to get home - we still had about 10 miles to bike
back to Mark's house.

On our ride home we came across two women on horses.

We have seen this in downtown Austin, Texas before, but never in downtown Indy! Where on earth did these ladies ride from?!

6-13-2019 Concert on the Canal - Take 3

Yep, we (and our friend, Mark - Annette was busy) rode our bikes downtown to another Concert on the Canal.

 

This time we enjoyed Pop, R&B and dance music by a band called Living Proof.

The dancing guy at the right is at every show, and he finds different women to dance with him along the Canal. You gotta
love his style, energy and enthusiasm!

We weren't quite ready to head home after the concert, so we biked over to Fountain Square. We paused for a moment at The
Idle - A Point of View, which is a cute little park in what would otherwise be wasted space between the Interstates in
downtown Indy. The orange seats (which are now sprinkled around town) were salvaged from the old Hoosier Dome before
it was demolished - yay for reuse!

Mark had eaten dinner earlier, but he joined us at Pure Eatery while we had a nice dinner. Eric had Shrimp Kabobs.

6-8-2019 Symphony on the Prairie - Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

Our friend, Annette, got several tickets for the Symphony on the Prairie concert series at Conner Prairie, and she invited us
to go with her and Mark to see a concert. We packed a picnic and camp chairs and found a nice spot on the lawn.

The opening act was the Seratones from Shreveport, Louisiana. The singer had a big voice and great presence - we really
enjoyed their funky rock music.

The headliner was Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, from New Orleans, Louisiana.

Their sound took us right back to our winters in New Orleans.

 

Every member of the band was just tremendous!

It was a packed house, and lots of people were up and dancing.

 

This band really rocked!!!

Trombone Shorty (aka Troy Andrews) seemed to be able to play every instrument, and he was absolutely incredible! We
hope to be able to see him again in New Orleans sometime.

6-6-2019 Concert on the Canal - Take 2

We are all about free events, and outdoor events, so these Concerts on the Canal are right up our alley!

Of course, we rode our bikes down here again.

This evening we enjoyed classic jazz music by Rob Dixon.

An electric boat - these are a new addition since last summer.

5-30-2019 Concert on the Canal

On a Thursday evening we hopped on the Monon Trail with our friends, Mark and Annette, and headed downtown.

Near downtown the Monon Trail hooks up with the Cultural Trail.

We took that over to the Canal Walk.

We sat along the Canal and enjoyed a free concert hosted by the Indiana History Center. It is part of their summer concert
series called Concerts on the Canal.

The performer was Jessie Brown, playing country, rock and soul.

The skies looked ominous, but it never did rain on us.
