This day was typical of Belize....In a small country of a little over 300,000 people you end up running into people you know a lot. These people invite you to go fun places.
Ross, Kathleen, Eric and Cara decided to go to a nearby park called the Cockscomb Basin to hike and do some river tubing.
While we were on the way we ran into our buddy Lea who was heading off to check out a waterfall property that they are developing. He invited us to follow him there and we took him up on the offer.
We had been there before and that post is here
January Waterfalls Trip
The road to the Waterfall is in good condition. We followed Lea. It had been raining a lot recently. |
After the main waterfall there is a punch pool and then a cascade like you see in this picture. There are stairs on the left. |
Another picture of the cascade. The flow was pretty high on this day. |
The last time I was here, the water was crystal clear....there had been a lot of rain recently. |
There is a stone path that is leading to the guest house and waterfall |
They are creating a studio rental that is embedded into the rock right by the waterfall |
The interior wall is the rock itself |
This is another view of the interior wall of what will become a studio guest house |
This is a close-up of the rock wall |
This is a view of the inside of the guest house |
This is where the bed will go |
Ross is an architect and he thought the building looked cool |
You are just a few steps away from the waterfall. You can see the waterfall from the house, but unfortunately I forgot to take any pictures. |
This is the main waterfall and there are several more above this one, but they are hard to get to. |
Ross, Kathleen, and a dog that adopted us for the trip. He was an older dog, but we talked nice to him and petted him and he never left our side for the whole trip. |
Ross and Kathleen again and there is a lot of mist because the waterfall was really flowing good |
Group Photo Time |
Normally there is a much smaller crystal clear pool here. |
This is a set of steps that are going up to what will end up being another guest house |
This will be a restaurant and the stream is flowing right underneath |
Believe it or not, this will be the future location of a guest house |
This is the stream flowing away from the property....you can see the restaurant up there. |
Near the Waterfall there are several future homesites that are on top of a mountain. The picture does not do the view any real justice. You can click on it to view it bigger and it will look much better. |
After the Waterfall we headed over to El Rancho. They have 3 guest houses, horseback riding, and several caves on the property. We hiked to one of them using. They had built steps much like you would see in an American State Park. I was told that the owner of the property also owns huge Banana and Orange Plantations and employs 2,000 people. When there is nothing else to do they come over here and build steps. |
They built steps down into the cave. We did not have a flashlight except for our phones. |
Surprisingly there was a swimming pool at the cave entrance. |
This is a picture of one of the cabanas that is located at the ranch |
